What is a Shared Mission℠ Initiative?
A Shared Mission℠ initiative is a collective approach to advancing ideas that positively impact humanity. Developed by mission-driven creative company enso, in partnership with SidePorch and other public and private stakeholders, our working format is designed to frame problems through diverse lenses, surface new ideas, and implement creative solutions at scale. By building coalitions of aligned partners -- including businesses, philanthropists, nonprofits, civic organizations, community leaders and creative influencers -- we can create social, environmental, and economic impact by orders of magnitude.

Building a Shared Mission℠ Initiative
Our collaborative working formats are designed for both impact and speed. By bringing together disparate cultural forces -- technology, government, philanthropy, business, and financial and creative capital -- around shared objectives and agile frameworks for solving and testing problems, we can accomplish more, faster.

OUR FIRST MISSION
Shared Mission℠ Initiative: Climate
We launched with a Shared Mission℠ summit on November 28-29, 2016 in Santa Barbara, led by Michael Smith of Ponvalley, to convene key leaders from business, science, technology, civic, nonprofit and government around climate change in the weeks following President Trump’s election to develop cross-sector solutions.
A 100+ ideas were generated and $65 million was committed to climate change initiatives. We’re working with two of the ideas to create actionable plans to make sure these Missions get out into the world.

Winning the fight for literacy justice
Our nation's future is under immediate threat. We are failing young people in providing the opportunity to achieve the very foundational skills upon which all else depends. In schools in every major urban and rural area across the country, an estimated 33,000,000 students in grades K-12 (total population assumed to be 50 million) are not proficient in reading. When our young people are not literate, they do not have the opportunity to meaningfully exercise their vote, pursue higher education, or attain jobs, and the foundation of our society and country is at risk. Our mission is critical, and more urgent than ever: Make sure kids can read. There is a lot to be done, including establishing the cultural will and a constitutional right to literacy, a process already under way with a landmark lawsuit in Detroit, led by our partner Public Counsel.
